Top 10 Things To Do In Kitsilano

When the sun is out, summer is still upon us and the weather is nice and warm, one of the best places to be in Vancouver is Kitsilano. This fantastic neighborhood is filled with great summer activities. Make sure you check then out during the next few weeks before we roll into the fall.

1. Vanier Park

Grab a blanket and chill at this fantastic little gem located east of the Kitsilano dog park and West of Granville Island. There is a lot of green space, perfect fo throwing a frisbee around, checking out some of the art sculptures or just to relax. Make sure you go down to the dock and check out the super cool vintage boats that are there, hailing from all over the world!

2. Museum of Vancouver and H.R. MacMillan Space Centre

“Journey to infinity and beyond at H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, a non-profit community resource that brings the wonders of space to Earth. The Space Centre offers interactive learning experiences for both kids and adults, including live demonstrations of rocket science in the GroundStation Canada Theatre, space exhibits and games in the Cosmic Courtyard, and astronomy shows under the domed Planetarium Star Theatre.” Author  

3. Take a Swim in Kits Pool

If you love the beach but aren’t a fan of swimming in the ocean, Kitsilano pool is the perfect place for you! This 137-metre, heated saltwater swimming pool on the bay features three slides & a cafe. There is also a small stage near by that plays outdoor concerts during the summer.

4. Shop Local Farmer’s Markets

Kitsilano is home to a fantastic local Farmer’s Market that runs from May – October. Located at: 2690 Larch St. the market hosts 50+ local farmers and their produce. Along with local produce Kits market also has baked goods, local roasted coffee, fresh cut flowers and artisan products.

5. Grab a Beer at ‘The Local Kits’

This is a great hopping pub year round, but perfect for the summer months because it is located right at Cornwall and Yew St., steps from Kits beach. Tired of playing in the sun? Take a break and grab some delicious appies and a beer on the patio at The Local Kits.

6. Bike Ride!

Check out one of Kitsilano’s bike rental shops if you don’t have your own, and head down to the water for a nice cruise. Head east and you will run into Granville Island, a perfect place to check out artisan snacks/goodies & local craft beer. Head west and you’ll wind up on a scenic tour of some of the best waterfront homes in Vancouver en route to Jericho Sailing club or Spanish Banks.

7. Enjoy Bard on the Beach

Are you a Shakespeare fan and love the beach? Or just enjoy really great live performances? Then look no further, Bard on the Beach is for you. Located right next to Burrard St. bridge and Vanier Park. Bard on the Beach is a fantastic array of Shakespeare plays performed right near Kits Beach all summer long.

8. Join a Yoga Class at Kits Beach

Kitsilano has many wonderful yoga studios to choose from. However, if you’d rather practice outside, head to Kits beach for free yoga sessions. Check out kitsilano.ca for more info!

9. Local Fruit at Kits Beach

During the ripe summer months you can find fruit stands with local berries and other delicious fruit right at Kits beach. Take your own container and help the environment out too!

10. Play Volley Ball at Kits Beach

Volley Ball in Kitsilano is popular year round, but during the summer months the popularity of this sport really grows. If you’re down at Kits beach and want some action, check out some of the tournaments that go on during the summer. During these games makes sure to grab a bite from one of the local food trucks and enjoy a great afternoon of sports and local snacks in the sun.
