Handworth Secondary School

Handsworth Secondary School

With a score of 7.3, Handsworth Secondary School is the top public school in the area coming in with a rank of 50/252. Located within a 5 minute drive of Grouse Mountain and the Capilano Suspension Bridge, the school is accessible via Capilano Road, exit 14 off BC Highway 1. 

Handsworth is the largest school in the North Vancouver School District with approximately 1544 students enrolled in Grades 8-12 as of September 2020. The mission of the school is to maximize the potential of all students endeavours whether that be intellectual, cultural, social, aesthetic, creative, and physical. Handsworth seeks to educate students and promotes responsible learning in order to develop student’s self-esteem, emotional well-being, respect for others, life-long learning, and strong career awareness.

Handsworth offers courses in a variety of subjects, including the humanities, sciences, language arts, business, marketing, fine and performing arts, textiles, woodwork, and computer technology. Notably, the school also offers several Advanced Placement courses. The school has an expansive athletics program with teams in football, rugby union, rowing, wrestling, volleyball, field hockey, basketball, swimming, mountain biking and soccer.

Windsor Secondary School

Windsor Secondary School

Windsor Secondary is the second top public school in Vancouver with a score of 6.8 and ranking of 72/252. It is located in the Seymour Heights area just off the Mount Seymour Parkway on the way to Deep Cove. 

This public high school is part of School District 44 and has a French immersion program since 2009.

This school is known for their excellent athletics program. The school has a beautiful artificial turf and the “Windsor Bubble” which is an outdoor field inside a white protective dome. Windsor is the home of the “Dukes”, their AA senior football team who have been successful in the past decade. Other strong sports teams include gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, hockey, and wrestling. Additionally, the schools has a unique Hockey Academy, Soccer Academy, Dance Academy and “Peak Performance Program” for high performance athletes.

Argyle Secondary School

Argyle Secondary

Argyle Secondary is the third top public school in Vancouver with a score of 6.4 and ranking of 98/252. The high school is an arts program focused school within the Upper Lynn Valley school district of North Vancouver (District).

The school offers courses in the humanities, sciences, language arts, business, fine arts and theater, and computer technology. Argyles also offers a French Immersion program, Digital Media Academy, Co-op Program, and Music Program from grade 8 to grade 12. The school athletics program includes volleyball, basketball, soccer, track and field, football, rugby, cheer, cross-country, curling, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, ultimate frisbee, and wrestling.

Carson Graham Secondary

Carson Graham Secondary is the fourth top public school in Vancouver with a score of 6.4 and ranking of 98/252. The school is located in the Central Lonsdale area.

Carson is an accredited International Baccalaureate World School. It offers an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) for those in grades 11-12 and a Middle Years Programme (MYP) for all students in grades 8-10. The school offers courses in a variety of subjects, including the humanities, sciences, language arts, business, fine arts and theater, engineering, leadership, and computer technology

Carson’s athletic program has teams in football, rugby union, rowing, wrestling, volleyball, badminton, basketball, swimming, mountain biking, ultimate frisbee, and soccer.

Seycove Secondary School

Seycove Secondary

Seycove Secondary is the fourth top public secondary school in Vancouver with a score of 6.4 and ranking of 107/252. It is located in the Deep Cove neighbourhood of the North Vancouver school division, just east of Dollarton Highway.

The school has a student population of approximately 650 students in grades 8 through 12. Seycove strives for collaborative innovation and learning, to build and maintain purposeful connections and relationships, and to create a safe environment in which to develop citizens of integrity.

Seycove has a comprehensive athletics program with teams in ski and snowboard, cross country, rugby, soccer, gymnastics, rowing, badminton, basketball, mountain biking, swimming, tennis, field hockey, track & field, golf and volleyball. Many teams are highly competitive and have won significant awards.

The school has many programs including a theatre program and technology program. They also have a Performance Learning Program which is an academically rigorous program that challenges students in grade 8 to 12. The program promotes real-world, technology-enhanced and project-based instruction through international field studies, hands-on learning and group work.
